A cold spell is coming to an end.

Malta is nearing the end of a cold weather spell and heading for a period of warmer temperatures, Meteomalta, a private weather service said this afternoon.

It said that during the past two weeks, maximum temperatures varied from 10°C to 13°C and minimum temperatures dropped to 5°C or 6°C at times.

"What made these abnormally cold temperatures feel even colder at times was the wind which produced a wind chill effect and the low humidity.

"However, this now seems to be over as the wind shifts to a south-easterly direction as from Saturday. This should see the temperatures go up gradually to reach a maximum of around 18°C or possibly even a bit higher next week," Meteomalta said.
